ALL KINDS OF PUNK
1990s-style Eurorage punk is returning in a big way, as are several other flavors of the genre. Here’s a few albums I thought worthy of an end-of-year mention.
E is for Exbats by The Exbats. Glorious grrrrl punk. Truly a D.I.Y. sound, fun and hard at the same time. Can’t wait to hear more from them!
Dogrel by Fontaines D.C. 2019 is the year punk came back, grew up, and dominated music. This is a truly amazing album, easily as good as its obvious progenitor, Mclusky, and way, way better than the Dublin band’s more famous U.K. rivals, IDLES. And this wasn’t even the best punk album of 2019.
An Obelisk by Titus Andronicus. Modern punk meets The Replacements. An album that will channel your anger, yank your chain, crack a smile, and make you dance, all at the same time.
