THE BEST ALBUMS OF 2019

AMERICANA, ALT-COUNTRY AND COUNTRY

This is a mixed genre that’s grown wide in the past several years, and it’s currently probably my favorite–right above hip hop.  Here’s what I thought were the best listens for the year…

THE TOP 7 COUNTRY, POP-COUNTRY, ALT-COUNTRY, AMERICANA, ETC. ALBUMS OF 2019

7. Eraserland by Strand of Oaks.

6. Terms of Surrender by Hiss Golden Messenger.

5. Girl by Maren Morris. Morris’ second country-pop album isn’t quite as good as her last one,  but her last one was both incredible and awesome.  This one is just awesome.  Deal with it.

4. Western Stars by Bruce Springsteen.  Americana by the Boss.

3. Purple Mountains (self-titled).  Wonderful Alt-Country, moody and wise, thought-provoking and meditative.  Rest in peace, David Berman.

2. The Highwomen by Highwomen.  The first female country supergroup.  This is the only album on this list that I wish were longer.

1. Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood.  I’m not sure what to call this.  Experimental  country psychedelia?   Southern atmospheric rock?  Doom folk?  Whatever.  It’s genius.

Next: Let’s get punky!
