THE 100 BEST COVER SONGS AND COVER ALBUMS OF 2018

75. Just What I Needed by Seaway (The Cars)
A postpunk update of the New Wave classic–well done!

74. 3×4 by The Bangles, Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade and Three O’Clock
The four bands covered three of each others’ songs for a Paisley Park compilation. Here’s the Bangles’ take on Jet Fighter, the only song available to stream.

73. Wicked Game by Desi, Cody (Chris Isaak)
Don’t buy this cover. It’s really good, great even, but don’t buy it.

Instead, buy the entire album. It’s one of the best albums of the year.

72. Chicago Plays the Stones by various artists (The Rolling Stones)
Some great takes on Stones classics here. Like Billy Branch’s version of the epic Sympathy for the Devil.

71. Pride (In the Name of Love) by Lxandra (U2)
From Amazon’s new season of The Man in the High Castle.

70. Breaking the Law by Smashing Pumpkins (Judas Priest)
From the kickoff to their tour–I wish this were better quality. Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath is on vocals. They also covered “Fly” but I’m not posting it because that song sucks.

69. It’s Always Blue: Songs from Legion by Noah Hawley
Creepy versions of songs from the best TV show of the year.

68. Call Me by Nobody’s Girl (Blondie)
From the band’s EP, “Waterline.”

66. and 67. Three Little Birds by Deep Dark River (countrified Bob Marley cover)
A nice update to my second favorite Bob Marley song. (You’ll never guess my favorite. It’s “Johnny Was.” And the runner up for best Three Little Birds cover of the year? Maroon Five.

65. Fast Car by Khalid (Tracy Chapman)

64. Thank U, Next by The 1975 (Arianna Grande cover)

63. Mad World by Lily Allen (Tears for Fears)

62. November Rain by Nicole Atkins and Mark Lanegan

61. No Scrubs by Jorja Smith
