Jesca Hoop is someone with songs I’ve admired for a while but I’ve never found any of her albums to be keepers. That changed with Long Wave Home.
It’s a true folk album–songs about freedom and resistance, walking the line between the political and the introspective, and often at the same time. Musically, it has catchy singles and more experimental indie folk. It’s full of suprises and may just be one of the best albums of the year.
