I love this album. It’s not what I expected at all. But I love it.
Larry June is one of the best of a genre I call “yacht rap.” Others call it “lifestyle rap.” His work with Alchemist has been the best of his long career thus far.
2 Chainz broke big for a while but, in my opinion, has largely coasted off the greatness of the trio of Collegegrove, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music and Rap or Go to the League.
The two have worked together before, but this album is different. June’s style is more more straight-ahead here, without as much of his usual silliness (I like that silliness, mind you), and 2 Chainz is also quieter here. The two are functioning much more as a duo than as two competing leads.
