Liz Phair is on tour with Alanis Morissette and Garbage, and tickets are going for over $300. She’s come a long way from being one of the earliest and most successful independent female artists.
Her music has changed too. It’s completely accessible. There is nothing avante garde or experimental here. But that’s not a bad thing. Phair’s music has always been deeply personal, sexually charged, and charming–and she has become a master at crafting smart, sing-along-able adult oriented pop.
This is easily her best album since her 2003 eponymous record–and it’s her first in 10 years. She’s released only seven albums over the course of a career that spans 3 decades and two centuries. Many modern artists could learn from her. Speak when you have something to say.
