OK. I really liked this album. It’s pop, it’s light, but the lyrics are strong and I really enjoyed it. And sometimes a completely listenable album is more than enough to get you through the day.
Jade Bird glides through easy Americana on songs like “Lottery” and “Side Effects.” She moves to sing-along, rousing pop on “I Get No Joy” and “Uh Huh.” And creeps along the rim of indie on “My Motto” and “Good At It,” which starts out like a Yeah Yeah Yeahs song until you hit the chorus, which is pure Country. And gets serious and introspective on “17.”
This is an easy album to underestimate–it seems light and without substance, but there’s a bottom there. It’s more than just a good listen.
