DIRT ROAD LOGIC-“The Rock N Roll EP”

“Rock N Roll” is a perfect name for Michigan’s not-quite-Springsteen collection of bar band ditties about life in the Midwest.  Every song hews closely to traditional bluesy rock, played well and played loud.  Dirt Road Logic are a foursome who have been around since their 2006 debut, and are clearly a tight group who love what they do.  Yes, it’s simple: It doesn’t experiment, doesn’t try to bend genres or blow minds, but its straightforward honesty is what makes it so good.  That, and the fact that it is produced in the same simple and clean style, by Al Sutton, who has done similar work as Kid Rock’s sound engineer.  There’s no need for the studio to overtake the artists here, they clearly know what they’re doing so as long as the mikes are placed properly and the mix is good, we don’t need a bunch of bells and whistles.  Just put in the tape, and let the boys play.

For fans of: Gaslight Anthem, The Hold Steady, Old 97’s, and Ryan Adams’ “Rock N Roll” album.
