THE TOP 10 BUDDY HOLLY SONGS, COMPLETE WITH COVERS!
10. Oh, Boy! (1957)
Seems like a perfect way to start out a top 10 list, doesn’t it? This song knocked “Brown Eyed Handsome Man” off my list—because I wanted to stick to ten.
Covers:
9. Maybe Baby (1958)
A song about yearning, with simple, repetitive lyrics—very characteristically Buddy Holly, and one of two songs on this list that inspired the title to a movie.
Covers: Both Lennon AND McCartney!?!
8. I’m Gonna Love You Too (1958)
Better known as a Blondie song from that band’s breakthrough, incredible album Parallel Lines, “I’m Gonna Love You To” may not have been written by Buddy. It’s credited to a team led by two of his bandmembers and his producer/agent, Norman Petty—although Holly’s drummer, Jerry Allison, claims he cowrote it with Buddy. It’s unmistakable Holly, though, even when Debbie Harry sang it twenty years later.
Covers:
7. Everyday (1957)
Buddy Holly had some really good slow songs, but most of my faves were his upbeat ones. This song is more downbeat than most of the others on this list, though. It’s a hopeful, optimistic song first released as the B-Side to Peggy Sue.

6. Peggy Sue (1957)
Historically, it’s the only song that has a sequel and which inspired a movie that didn’t have a sequel but which was named after the song’s sequel. Yes, I’m talking about Peggy Sue Got Married.
