60. You Make Lovin’ Fun by Fleetwood Mac (Rhythm Scholar Shorter but Sweet Remix)
59. Feel It Still by The Kooks (Portugal. The Man.)
God bless the “Like a Version” internet radio station for giving us so many cool covers!
58. Rough Versions Volume 6: Biggie (mash up album)
Yet another great Tom Caruana mashup project. Like most mash music, every single cut doesn’t work, but there’s a whole bunch that work really well–because Caruana isn’t a slave to the source material. His mashups are much more like remixes–or reimaginings–and keeping alive the lyrics of one of the greatest rappers of all time is God’s work.
57. Kilonova by William Elliott Whitmore
A collection of dark, old-timey country covers of an incredible variety of performers—Bad Religion, ZZ Top, Dock Boggs, and others.
56. The Middle by Boyce Avenue (Zedd, Marin Morris, and Grey cover)
Better than the original. Of course, I can’t stand the original.
55. Prisoner (Ryan Adams) by The Ahern Brothers
54. Elton John Covers Albums
Multiple tribute albums recognized the easy rock genius, and there were some terrific versions. My faves? Alessia Cara’s take on I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, one of his 1980s monster hits, and Dierks Bentley who actually makes an Elton song so tepid it was a Sasson commercial into something really, really good.

52. The Johnny Clash Project
An Italian band that covers a British punk band in the style of an American country music legend. Yeah, it’s kitsch, and it doesn’t always work, but when it does work, it’s lots of fun.
51. Playing Favorites by Meiko
Gentle versions of songs ranging from the 1950s to this Century. Wide variety, and solid performances.
