DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE-Kintsugi

I love Death Cab. They’re one of my all-time favorite bands. And they’re posting a bunch of music from their latest album, Kintsugi, free-to-stream on Soundcloud….

It’s not their best album, but it’s pretty typical: Mournful, excellent lyrics, music that invites pensive mindfulness….Whenever I listen to a DCFC album I find my mind wandering inward, becoming introspective and insightful. Looking in.

I read once that Adam Duritz of Counting Crows is the most self-indulgent lyricist around, and that all his songs are about HIM in a big way–and I get that. Death Cab is pretty similar, actually, only it’s not as bombastic. It’s more about the universality of love and isolation, and what it does to us. Or, more precisely, what we do to ourselves by holding on to thoughts, people, memories.

That’s enough out of me. I’m getting nuts here. Suffice to say, it’s an album well worth buying–another great chapter in the life of a great band.
