MATTHEW BARBER-“Ghost Notes”

It’s nothing complicated, it’s nothing sophisticated. It’s a just a singer-songwriter and his guitar (and piano), making neat, sweet songs about living and loving in a pop/folky way. But “Ghost Notes,” Matthew Barbers first collection three years, is a perfect example of the perfection of simplicity. At the opening, the album invites, “Lend me your ear,” a tribute to The Beatles (who in turn were paying tribute to Shakespeare). You should. You’ll be glad you did. P.S.: It was nominated for a 2009 Juno award for best solo roots/traditional recording.
