Here’s a little advance notice of an upcoming re-release you might like. On June 3, Brooklyn’s own
R&B/Funk label, Daptone Records, is releasing a digital-only compilation of previously unreleased (i.e., never on an LP) 45s by greats like Lee Fields and Sugarman 3, the Mighty Imperials, and Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings.
Some key cuts include Sharon Jones’s cover of Kenny Rogers’s “I Just Dropped In to See What Condition My Condition Was In”—the classic tune best known to this generation as that tune from Big Leibowski, and a few really great Charles Bradley tunes like the one offered for download below and “This Love Ain’t Big Enough for the Two of Us.†This is great BBQ music. Check it out. Oh, and don’t miss the closing cut: “Che Che Cole,†a reworking of the salsa classic by Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra.
