Kid Dakota is a drum-and-guitar duo from Minneapolis, and one of the members is Prince. No, not that Prince from Minnesota. Ian Prince, a drummer who has teamed up with singer-songwriter Darren Jackson on the second
album by this surprisingly un-country band. You’d think from their name that they’d be a dirt-and-dust kind of thing, but instead Kid Dakota are a straight-ahead indie rock band with tightly constructed songs and excellent rhythm. They’re bit like a less-obscure Radiohead, or a more accessible Elliott Smith, or a smoother Neutral Milk Hotel. Comparisons abound—the band doesn’t break new ground, but it strides successfully through the inde sound, making a complex, rich album that is well worth a spin.
