CITY-STATE, “Monument”

City-State, a Washington, D.C. foursome, have released their appropriately named first-full-length, “Monument.” It’s dark electronic mood rock. Not what I usually listen to, for sure, but it seems to me to be a fine example of the genre. I understand that Don Zientara lent his capable skills to the album (he’s a veteran of Fugazi, Q And Not U, and The Walkmen), which explains why the sound is so good. This is an example of an incredibly well-produced album, and a solid debut. Music for driving in city rains.

For fans of: Interpol, British Sea Power, Joy Division, and the music (not vocals) of Portishead.
