One of the great things about owning a blog that doesn’t allow advertising and isn’t beholden to any label or production company is that I get to post what I want, when I want, and thousands of you every day come by and check it out. I know many of you just stop by to snatch a rare live track by an established artist or a B-Side by an indie star, but I’m hoping that some of you—even it’s only ten or twenty percent of my readers—also check out posts like this one.
J D Black, a.k.a. J David Black & The Whoever Else is nobody you’ve heard of. He’s a 25-year-old Alabama kid with, as he puts it, “severe social anxiety,†who recently played his music live for the first time in 8 years. He’s not on a label. He’s not touring with The Hold Steady. He doesn’t look like Justin Timberlake and he’s not boffing Meg White. He’s just a guy with a guitar who makes and records his own music (hence the lo-fi nature of it all) and wants to share it with you all. Check it out and let me know what you think. I particularly like Killing Sergio.
Also, tell me if you actually read/listen to these lesser- (or un-) known musicians that I post on from time to time. I want to know if I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness . . .
