G.O.A.T.: Who Ya Gonna Call?: Cover Versions of The Theme From Ghostbusters

THE GREATEST OF ALL TUNES (G.O.A.T.) is a series of posts, ranking my favorite songs of all time.  The master list is here, and I update it about every two weeks or when I have another 10 songs or so.

Ghostbusters-Dream Syndicate (direct mp3 download).  Remember this band, from the mid-80s?  It was Steve Wynn’s first band?  No?  I wouldn’t either if the bar I worked at at the time wasn’t covnerting from 45s to CDs, so they gave me all their vinyl and I got the “Days of Wine and Roses” single.  Apparently, Kurt Cobain dug ’em quite a bit.

Next: June Hill and Syberia take the song on, in two very different, but really cool versions.

Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes does the indie folk thang on the song:

A really, really great live band, again from the Live Music Archive site: Ghostbusters by Animal Liberation Orchestra (direct download of mp3)

Japanese comics take it on.  Very funny!  Then, Fall Out Boy.  Very not funny.

A blog favorite version is Hoobastank:

Then a mellower groove with Kasabian:

Here’s another direct mp3 download from the live music archive–a pretty cool jamband version of Ghostbusters by Little Mountain Band.

McFly.  Silly powerpostpunk pop.

David “Rock On” Essex and Andrew “Thank You For Being a Friend” Gold.  Two giants of ’70s soft rock:

The Rasmus:

Another direct download: Max Creek, the original Grateful Dead wannabe jamband, does an eight-minute version. Ghostbusters by Max Creek (direct mpfree)

That’ll do.
