A double album with an amazingly obscure title is a pretty risky affair, even if your last albums were the darlings of all the indie folk rocker critics on the planet. So how does Big Thief’s opus rate?
Pretty damn good.
There are many moments of genius, which have become typical for this band, even if overall it is uneven. The album feels like one long recording session and the sound and content varies depending on which cluster of songs you find yourself in.
But overall, there is a reason why every web site about music is telling you to go get this record.
Because it’s worth it.
