A most fun excursion into mostly unknown covers by the most prolific and talented guy in indie psych rock. And his takes are…Quite different. And his selections of songs to cover is…Extraordinarily different. If you’ve heard of every song on the album, you must be an historian of 1970s music.
He starts with a creepy take on Low Rider that is barely recognizable from the original, then launches into probably the most straightforward and “normal” cover on the record: Spencer Davis’ “I’m a Man.”
Then it’s on to John Lennon’s “Isolation,” from his Plastic Ono Band album. And then a personal favorite–Funkadelic!
Song to song, he keeps you guessing. A really fun album!
