Let’s get this out of the way early: Annoying vocal transitions and skits between songs should be standalone tracks. When they appear at the beginning or end of a song, they’re just something you endure. Put them on their own and you can move ’em out of your playlist after you’ve heard them once.
OK. Enough of that. Because it’s probably the only negative thing I have to say about Tanya Morgan’s first album in four years.
They hit the scene like a tornado, with rappers Donwill and Von Pea becoming immediate darlings of both the headz and the critics. Their debut mixtape “Tanya Morgan is a Rap Group” bounced between styles, covering all the bases from funny backpacker to grimey street tales. It was an awesome experience. Their follow-up albums were good, but then they dropped out of sight in 2013.
Well, if that’s how long it takes for them to release another brilliant record, it’s worth the wait.
