I’m posting my 40 favorite Rolling Stones songs, complete with covers.
20. Slipping Away (Steel Wheels, 1989)
Steel Wheels was The Rolling Stones’ comeback album. And the most interesting thing about it was not the hard-driving (but fairly standard) lead single, “Mixed Emotions,” or Mick Jagger’s standard slow jam (“Almost Hear You Sigh”). In fact, on both those songs the band seems to show its age. But the last track was a sweet ballad sung by Keef, about life passing by and dreams not coming true. For an aged band that, at this point, was well past its prime, the song was perfect.
Covers: None.
