Well, not really. I’m stretching it a little. Eric Magnus Campbell Tigerstedt was born on August 4, 1887 (and died on April 20, 1925) in Finland, and is known as that country’s version of Thomas Edison. He innovated a whole bunch of things–notably, sound-in-movies, but he was also the first person to file a patent for a cell phone. Specifically, the patent was for a “pocket-size folding telephone with a very thin carbon microphone.”
