There’s a little bit of a knowing, indie sneer in singer-songwriter Ryan Smith’s delivery of the eight songs on his debut album, Waiting. And that’s not a bad thing–it gives him a signature sound, something that separates him from the hundreds of other bandcamp singers out there these days. It’s easy to get lost in that crowd, and Ryan Smith stands out. His lyrics are a little dark–at one point he compares someone to cancer–but they’re solid relationship-type stuff.
