The Family are actually a family: A father-son and mother-daughter foursome. This is their debut. Like Fleetwood Mac? Well, they sound a LOT like them. Especially thes song Wicked Kind, which has an opening chord pulled straight from “The Chain.”
This is not a bad thing. They also sound like the best of Mac’s solo work (i.e., the hits by Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie). I also hear some Robbie Robertson, a smattering of Eagles, a bit of Melissa Etheridge, and they cover Crosby, Stills and Nash’s acapella protest song, “Find the Cost of Freedom.” Wearing your influences openly can be a sign of love, not a symptom of mimicry, and with this band the latter seems to be true. If you listen to this album, it’s highly likely you’ll walk away humming a few of the riffs.
