One of the industry’s most interesting producers and Dave East, a New York rapper who by now should be settling into “established” status, have come together to produce one of the year’s best rap albums so far.
As you might have guessed, the mixtape recalls the story of mobbed up labor leader Jimmy Hoffa. It’s not a history lesson, but it is inspired by East’s self-alleged relation to a Hoffa union capo.
East is certainly talented enough to carry an album, but it is worth noting that Benny the Butcher turns in a phenomenal guest spot here. Other guests include Curren$y, Jim Jones, French Montana, and G Herbo–and they all put in great work here.
Highest recommendation.
