ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: Plants and Animals; Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

Plants and Animals have released another album of fascinating rhythms and ultra-cool hipsway. It’s probably their most interesting album yet–notwithstanding the lack of any clear single.

FFO: Talking Heads, Of Montreal

There’s a funky element to Plants and Animals, but if you prefer your funk unsubtle, hot, thick and heavy, then check out the latest (and posthumous) collection by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Awesome covers!

Runner Up: Heather Trost’s new album Petrichor is another entry in a growing list of terrific young, indie, female singer-songwriters. Get it for the ’60s psychedelic vibe of “Let it in” and then keep it for an amazing cover of “Jump into the Fire” by Nilsson. Enjoy the single, “Love It Grows.”
