Nick Lowe has released an EP in 2019. And it’s good. No, it’s very good. Actually, it might even be great.
Just listen to Trombone, one of the four songs on this new release. It starts with a trombone alone, and then calls to the instrument, pleading to it like a lover. That’s the whole concept, and it sums up Nick Lowe. He’s a brilliant, sensitive writer who loves music more than anything. He’s written for some of the best in the world: Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, Dave Edmunds. He was a producer for Stiff Records during it’s legendary 1970s period, and went on the produce the first single for a little-known band called The Pretenders. And he’s got multiple grammys and gold records of his own, like the very first Stiff Records single (And So It Goes), and was hand-picked to play or produce major punk acts (The Damned, Lene Lovich), blues (John Lee Hooker), experimental rock (Flaming Lips, Robyn Hitchcock), Americana (Wilco, John Hiatt), and every other genre you can think of. It goes on and on.
His new EP is fantastic. Check it out below. Then hit “next” for a massive celebration of some of Nick Lowe’s songs…In covers! I’ve tried to cull out on the best for you!
