Let’s listen to some country music today!
Kate Tucker has been making indie country (it’s more Americana than twang) for about a decade, and rarely disappoints. Her newest collection of original songs is, ostensibly, about her mother’s death. “I can feel you breathing again,” she sings on “In Your Arms,” but it’s not a sad song and it’s not a melancholy album. It’s a celebration. It’s a tribute to love and support and kindness–frankly, I wish I’d loved my mother like this.
You don’t have to know this backstory to enjoy this album–but it helps. Lyrics like “It’s true, I look a lot like you,” make more sense when you know where they’re coming from–but they still pack a powerful, emotional message.
Close your eyes and let songs like, “What’s Left of My Heart,” wash over you.
