I don’t usually go for gentle folk. I usually find it dull. So for me to be blogging about such an album–and for me to be giving it a rave recommendation–means it must be extremely good. And it is.
Joseph Childress may feel slight at first, but his guitar playing is extraordinary, and his lyrics are equally impressive.
For fans of: Joanna Newsom, Kevin Morby.
It’s not just folk, either. It’s got an Americana feel–and it’s earned. Childress wrote the album while employed at an actual, working cattle ranch in Wyoming and sleeping in his car. He now lives in San Francisco.
There is a depth and richness here that should not be missed. Highest recommendation.
