Secret Canadian is an interesting label—you never know what you’ll find there. And Alex Cameron’s album is a perfect fit. It’s pure pop, but it’s lyrics are often X-rated. It’s vapid and purely surface, unless you actually listen.
It’s not often that an artist creates something that appears to be intentionally shallow as an artifice to hide depth, but that does in fact seem to be what’s going on here. It’s almost like real life—where we conceal our darkness under sarcasm and our pain under humor.
