MONDA by COUSIN STIZZ

Boston’s Cousin Stizz broke last year with one of the best debut mixtapes I’ve ever heard, Suffolk County, so my expectations for his sophmore release were high.

I wasn’t disappointed.

Monda, named after a dead homie, moves Stizz closer to superstardom. It’s still got lots of drawl and druggy songs, but there’s also more experimental tunes like 500 Horses, which grinds forward with a nod and a lurch, just like being in the saddle. And Stizz does practically the whole thing himself. This is a young man with a lot to say, and all of us should listen.
