One of the things I loved about Thao and the Get Down Stay Down was how accessible they were, despite her quirky, playful voice. Their new album, though, is a vast departure—it’s a mix of art rock and noise rock. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked it. Then I did. Then I didn’t.
