Philly’s own Busses make psychedelic indie rock. They remind me a little bit of Black Mountain, only not as heavy. Which is not to say the album doesn’t have its heavy moments. “Radio,” for example, is a five minute epic of bass, fuzz, howling and wails. In other words: Awesome.
The guitar work is appropriately subtle, and there are even some cool horns tossed in for flavor from time to time, but that drumming. Holy shit. The drums on this are amazing.
There’s an mp3 for free, and then a full stream. Make sure you listen to “Rain” and “Big Surprise,” if you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing. Extraordinary.
