A DOUBLE SHOT: BIRDS OF NIGHT AND BMBU

I’ll be offering two treats today–two very different records, but both reallly good.

“Birds of Night” is the new album by…Birds of Night!

It’s some very tasty indie pop.

The band hails from Denton, Texas.  The promo materials call it “dark” but I didn’t find it that way.  It’s a little heavy, but it’s the kind of heavy indie rock that still feels like pop.  It’s produced by Midlake drummer McKenzie Smith, and you can feel the influence of that band’s sound here.

Although it’s eponymous, it’s actually their third album, and it officially drops on April 21, but there’s an advance mpfree:

Dark

Second: BMBU’s “So My Dad Can Retire.”  It’s an instrumental/beats record, that feels like hip hop ambient. And tell me “Last Days” doesn’t sound like Glen Frey’s “You Belong to the City” meets Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello.” Only better, because you can bang to it.

The whole album is free, so you have no good reason not to check it out…
