When you learn that Lower Heaven took their bandname from an Echo and the Bunnymen song, you won’t be surprise to learn that their new album, “Ashes,” is Los Angeles shoegaze. It’s a genre with far too many entries these days, considering all the important things going on in the world. But when you’re ready to look low and be still for a while, Lower Heaven is a solid band to turn to.
Bass player Christina Parks is one of the elements that puts Lower Heaven at the head of the its class, adding a sometimes unpredictable bounce behind lyrics about broken hearts and the downward spiral of post-breakup introspection. It’s also got first-class production by Rob “Brian Jonestown Massacre” Campenella and Rick “Black Rebel Motorcycle Club” Parker. And, you can get if for cheap: $9.99 at the great CD Baby.
