Didja like “Rockers Who Think They Can Rap” and “More Rockers Who Think They Can Rap?” Well, then you might enjoy this little idea. Rockers who think have soul–mostly classic soul, or spirituals. This is day one of a multi-parter. A through E.
A is for “Ain’t No Sunshine.” The Bill Withers classic is a particular favorite for guys with rough voices who really wanna be able to belt it out. I’m starting with my favorite version, by the great Americana band Lucero. It kicks the ass of all comers.
Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers)-Lucero (live)
Another one I really like is by The Mood Cultivation Project-Ain’t No Sunshine. It’s got a little more funk.
Then there’s this pretty cool indie version: Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers)-Nees and Vos
And I really dig this one: Ain’t No Sunshine/In the Air Tonight-Brian Dolzani.
And finally, pop radio faves Maroon 5 introduce “Shiver” with the refrain from Ain’t No Sunshine.
B is for Bring it On Home to Me-Spoon (Sam Cooke)
C is for Can’t Get Enough of Your Love (Barry White)-Afghan Whigs
D is for Gavin DeGraw, who is prone to do old soul medleys.
Marvin Gaye Medley-Gavin DeGraw
Tracks of My Tears > Cupid > People Get Ready- Gavin DeGraw (Smokey, Sam, and the Temptations)
E is for Feeling Good (nina simone)-Eels.
