I hadn’t heard the phrase “garage country” before I looked up what others were saying about this album. It seems to be a genre that’s like indie country/rock, with more crunch.
The album is unpredictable. There are songs that feel like pop singles mixed in with quieter moments and flashes of shoegazy pondering. Strings sometime rise up, followed by hard guitars….A very interesting ride. Ashley Monroe makes an appearance on “Delusional,” which bears more than a little similarity to some old Pixies’ songs. Like Sellers, Monroe has been known to walk along the farther edges of the country genre.
Check it out.
