We started with all the free plastic Blackest Night power rings.

TV NEWS . . .
ENTIRE WALKING DEAD STAFF KILLED. Frank Darabont fired all the writers on AMC’s The Walking Dead, saying he has a new vision for Season 2—for it to be written by non-union, freelance writers. This sounds like a money issue, but in the long run most of Season 1 was handled by Darabont and Robert Kirkman, so they just may want to keep it that way and the negative hype may be spin from the disgruntled fired writers. Still, it seems odd to make drastic changes on such a hugely popular (and critically acclaimed) show.
THE RETURN OF BUFFY. Warner Bros. announced plans for a new Buffy show, sans Joss, Sarah, or any other ties to the original. Way to kill a memory, WB. There’s zero chance of this being anywhere near as good as the first TV series. Lightning simply doesn’t strike twice. Here is Joss’ (hilarious) response:

RAVEN(?) And speaking of Buffy . . . Having abandoned plans for a “Robin” TV show or a Superman follow-up to Smallville, the CW has hired a former Buffy The Vampire Slayer writer to develop a show based on Raven of The New Teen Titans. Personally, I think it sounds depressing. Raven alone, without Kid Flash or Gar? Stupid. I’d rather see them develop the Aquaman show they’ve also been tossing around.
BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD GETS DARKSEID. So, he can appear in this fun, Grant-Morrison-endorsed cartoon, but we still can’t see him in Smallville? What gives?
COMIC BOOKS AND OTHER NEWS . . .
ALL-STAR SUPERMAN. Pretty much everyone thinks Grant Morrison’s All-Star Superman was the greatest Superman comic of all time, or at least is in the top 10. DC’s animated take on the “save the sun” story arc from that series will be arriving in February 2011 on DVD. It will clock 75 minutes, and the DVD will also have a preview of “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” (the next DC DVD on the way).
WE3. Perhaps Grant Morrison’s greatest non-Batman work, WE3 will be released in a “deluxe” version with 33 new pages—basically, let getting an extra issue.
