I’m not usually one for instrumentals, but Luz Mob is fucking awesome. It’s hip hop for the ballroom dancing set–Reggae to dub, jazz to hip hop, the album’s got it all, really. No exaggeration. It’s got tunes written by luminaries like Prince Far I, and covers of tunes like “The Selecter,” originally done by the English ska revival band of the same name, and “The SFC” (original by JT Tha Bigga Figga). This is a great record, and it’s going into my “Best of 2007 So Far” file.
Mixed by The Big Apple’s Scotty Hard (Wu-Tang Clan, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Prince Paul).
