A sweet mix of country/bluegrassy instrumental originals and cover songs–including not one but two Grateful Dead covers: “They Love Each Other” and “Franklin’s Tower.” If he’d included “Eyes of the World,” he would have hit my top 3 Dead songs!
Hendryx’s covers are close enough to keep the feel and spirit of the source material but unique enough that they don’t simply make you want to hear the originals. I say they are close to the source, but for his version of “True Colors,” which turns Cyndi Lauper’s ballad into a country anthem. Excellent!
