Okay, I’m late to this party. I just got Yo La Tengo’s new album, I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass. I was just hangin’ at the CD Cellar, looking for something new, and remembered how lots of folks I respect had put this on their best of ’06 list. I’d heard a couple tracks before, but I didn’t care for them. Still, I gave it another try. And I’m so glad I did. I don’t know what I was thinking the first time around. This is a truly classic record–experimental while still catchy; intelligent without being mathematical or obtuse. Just all around great music…And, at the very least, the best album title of 2006.
From the new album:
Pass the Hatchet, I Think I’m Good Looking-Yo La Tengo
Earlier recordings:
Love Life of an Octopus-Yo La Tengo
Medium-Rare cuts:
Behind That Locked Door (Live Version)-Yo La Tengo
Don’t You Want Me (Human League cover)-Yo La Tengo
Dreamin’ (Blondie cover)-Yo La Teno
I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend (Ramones cover)-Yo La Tengo
Dreamin’-Yo La Tengo. I know this is a cover, too. Anyone know who did the original?
