Aaaah, The Bangles. Voices like angels, looks like extras from an ’80s mall movie. The band had quite a few hits, but none as endearing-or enduring-as the vaguely racist Walk Like an Egyptian, which hit #1 on December 20, 1986.
The song was written by the band’s producer, who first offered the song to Toni “Mickey You’re So Fine” Basil. Then Lene Lovich recorded it, but it wasn’t released. Then, finally, it came The Bangles.
It’s also a GOAT–or at least it is for now. It’s not going to enter high on the master list and will probably get cut as we move along and try to keep it to 100. But it’s an undeniably fun song.
