Right off the top: This is a tremendously wonderful indie-folk-rock album. It’s got lots of catchy singles and hooks, and lots of insightful lyrics. It’s also beautiful, and works as a proper album. Also, Andy Jenkins has one of those voices that’s distinctively not male (i.e., not “twee”), but he still writes sensitive enough to know he’s getting all the college chicks. “Everything that everyone says is boring, I only want to listen to you.” What girl doesn’t want to hear that?
From Richmond, Virginia, this is Jenkins’ first album. As of right now, I imagine this will make my end of the year list as one of the best indie rock albums of 2018.
