NEAR EXIT 27 by DIGGER BARNES

Okay, so this is Finnish??? Because I would swear to God that this was roots Americana, borne of hard-living off a rural route in some Southern town that has only one traffic light, where the folks work hard all day and dream of being somewhere else–somewhere they’ll never go.

And it kind of is. Digger has been living a road life for ten years, going from town to town with his guitar, as he tells in the song “Travelin’ Man”–trying to “settle down every now and then, but I am a traveling man…”

It’s a lonely album, full of soul, well-crafted and wonderful. Apparently, he’s been around a long time–but this is my first introduction to him. And I’m (ahem) diggin’ him.
