Well, The Sonics haven’t gone anywhere. They’ve just releases their first record in nearly five decades, and it sounds as hard, raw and crisp as anything they did in the 1960s.
Lots of bands are retro. Lots of bands can take it old school. But these guys actually helped invent garage rock.
Their album is a mixture of originals and carefully selected covers, including The Kinks’ The Hard Way from that band’s criminally overlooked Schoolboys in Disgrace album.
