JASON CHOI-“Leave The Night Behind”

Team Grizzly presents Jason Choi, of Melbourne, Florida, an singer/songwriter who captures all of the critical indie elements on his new record, “Leave The Night Behind.” Just about every song invites comparisons. “More Than Many Sparrows” has the soaring of Death Cab For Cutie. On “Aren’t We Funny,” Jason does his best Michael Stipe imitation, in a song that could have been an outtake from Automatic For The People, what with its odd juxtaposition of mourning and yearning vocals over cymbal-heavy, optimistic beat. And yet, at the same time, his music sounds distinctive. Solid indie pop with a very talented band. I particularly enjoyed “Up Jump The Devil,” available below.
