On the Jagjaguwar affiliated Brah, Parts & Labor released “Stay Afraid” last year, but I’m just getting wind of them. (I’m always the last one asked to dance. Don’t come here for scoops.) But better late than never, eh? P&L make indie punk–like if The Minutemen teamed up with We Are Scientists. Mapmaker, the band’s new full-length, is crazy, chaotic, and full of furious flashes of fire. To the casual listener, it may sound random or disorganized, but if you pay attention it’s clearly calculated and precise. An assault on the generally laid back and placid world of indie rock. Great stuff, I say. And this is from someone who doesn’t generally go for noise rock.
