G.O.A.T.:SEVEN NATION ARMY by The White Stripes (2003)

Who doesn’t know the bassline that introduces this adrenaline-surged blues track?  You might be surprised at the answer, because it’s probably you!  The famous “dum-DUM-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum” that runs through the Grammy-winning Seven Nation Army is actually an acoustic guitar hooked up to a whammy pedal.  Go figure!

And the song has so much fury and excitement, it’s hard to believe it’s just two people—Meg and Jack.

Further listening: Jack’s work with The Raconteurs is actually much closer to this punky, bluesy single than anything else he did in The White Stripes.

THE GREATEST OF ALL TUNES (G.O.A.T.) is a series of posts, producing my 100 favorite songs of all time.  The master list is here, and I update it about every two weeks or when I have another 10 songs or so.

Covers: Innumerable. Here are just a few neat ones.
