Bring the funk! It starts with a funky hipsway instrumental–a cover of an old Roy Ayers tune, “Black Five,” which serves as the lead in to a blazing, guitar-and-vocal driven funk cover of “Cynthy-Ruth.” From there, it keeps you moving, nonstop, through covers of The Meters, Otis Redding, and even that most ballsy of attempts: A faithful cover of one of Aretha’s greatest works, “Think.” This is a rootsy, soulful throwback to a time when music had muscle and groove.
