Civil War: Runaways/Young Avengers #1-4 (2006)

Both of Marvel’s “kid teams” are quite popular, so it makes sense to tie them together during Civil War.

The Runaways are at a local farmer’s market when a new Flag Smasher attacks a SHIELD “cape killers” team, saying that the Superhuman Registration Act represents a government-led consolidation of power away from free citizens. (Which it does, really.)

The team intercedes, and are caught on TV, but more SHIELD agents arrive so the kids flee the scene.

This leads the Young Avengers to track them down using a Wiccan spell.

After a fight (because that’s what heroes do when they meet for the first time), the two young teams find themselves being hunted by SHIELD. The hunter is Marvel Boy–from that great Grant Morrison miniseries a few years back.

A few of them are captured and find themselves imprisoned in The Cube, a SHIELD prison for aliens.

Marvel Boy has been brainwashed by SHIELD and Vision figures out that when he phases through the young kree super-warrior, SHIELD’s brainwashing is eroded.

In the end, the two teams part ways as friends while Marvel Boy takes over the Cube and proclaims it the capital of the New Kree Empire.

Noh Varr is really the focus of this miniseries, but the interactions between Marvel’s two teen teams are fun and well done.
